Established in 1924, the National Museum of Mongolia is the country’s premier institution dedicated to preserving and showcasing Mongolian history, culture, and heritage. 🗂️ EXHIBITION HIGHLIGHTS

The museum’s exhibitions are organized into several halls, each focusing on different periods and aspects of Mongolian history:

 

🏺 Hall 1: Ancient History

Artifacts from the Paleolithic era to the early Iron Age, including stone tools and ritual objects dating back to 800,000 BCE. 

 

🏛️ Hall 2: Ancient States

Exhibits related to ancient states from the 3rd century BCE to the 12th century CE, such as the Hunnu Empire and other nomadic tribes. 

 

🐎 Hall 6: Traditional Mongolian Life

Displays of nomadic lifestyles, including a traditional ger (yurt), clothing, and tools used in daily life. 

 

📜 Hall 7: 17th to Early 20th Century Mongolia

Artifacts and documents from the Qing dynasty period, illustrating Mongolia’s political and cultural changes.

 

🏛️ Hall 8: Socialist Mongolia

Exhibits covering the period from the 1921 revolution to the 1990s, including political artifacts and personal items of leaders. 

 

🕊️ Hall 9: Democratic Mongolia

Displays highlighting Mongolia’s transition to democracy in the 1990s and its contemporary society.

🖥️ Digital Hall: The Mongol Empire

An interactive exhibition using 2D, 3D, VR, and AR technologies to present the history of the Mongol Empire, including a virtual reconstruction of Karakorum, the ancient capital. 

 

🍽️ Temporary Exhibitions

Rotating exhibits such as “Mongolian Traditional Dishes,” showcasing culinary artifacts and the evolution of Mongolian cuisine. 

 

🛍️ Museum Shop

A souvenir shop offering items like Genghis Khan maps, traditional crafts, and other memorabilia.

❓ Is the museum suitable for children?

Yes, children under 16 enter for free, and the interactive exhibits are engaging for all ages.

 

❓ Are guided tours available?

Yes, guided tours in Mongolian and English are available for groups of 10 or more; advance booking is required. 

 

❓ Can I take photographs inside the museum?

Photography is allowed with the purchase of a 20,000₮ photography permit. Note that some exhibits may have “No photo” signs.  

 

❓ How long should I plan for a visit?

A typical visit lasts 1.5 to 2 hours, but history enthusiasts may spend more time exploring the extensive collections.
